NMAT 2024 – Verbal Skills Section Overview
The Verbal Skills section in NMAT 2024 is designed to test a candidate’s language proficiency, reading ability, and logical comprehension — all of which are crucial for success in management education and communication-heavy roles. The section typically contains 36 questions to be solved in 28 minutes, making speed and accuracy essential.
The section includes a balanced mix of the following:
Reading Comprehension (RC):
RC passages are generally short to medium in length (250–500 words) but dense in content. Topics range from business and economics to philosophy, psychology, and science. Questions test main idea identification, tone, fact-based understanding, and inference-making. Efficient reading and the ability to grasp structure are key.
Para-jumbles (Sentence Rearrangement):
These assess logical sequencing and coherence. Candidates must reorder 4–5 jumbled sentences to form a meaningful paragraph. Skills tested include recognizing opening and closing lines, transition words, pronoun references, and cause-effect or contrast relationships.
Vocabulary-based Questions:
Expect synonyms, antonyms, analogies, and contextual vocabulary. These test your depth of word knowledge, not just memorized definitions. Using root words, prefixes and suffixes, and word usage in context can improve performance.
Grammar and Sentence Correction:
These involve error detection, sentence improvement, and spotting subject-verb agreement, modifiers, parallelism, tense, and preposition errors.
Critical Reasoning and Logical Structure:
Questions include assumption, inference, strengthen/weaken, and conclusion-based reasoning. Candidates must assess argument quality and structure with precision.
Preparation Tips:
Practice across all areas, improve reading speed, maintain a strong vocabulary, and develop an eye for structure and logic. NMAT Verbal is not overly tough but is time-sensitive, so quick comprehension and fast decision-making matter most.
